Nigeria’s Bank of Industry (BoI) is committed to bankrolling movie projects geared towards promoting agriculture and agribusiness in Nigeria.
Waheed Olagunju, BoI’s Acting Managing Director/Chief Executive, told participants at a High-level seminar on Changing Perception of Agriculture: the role of entertainment industry here in Ahmedabad at the annual meetings of the African Development Bank (AfDB) that AfDB’s ‘agritainment’ initiative was in sync with what the BoI and the Nigerian government are doing to encourage young people to go into agriculture and agribusiness.
He commended the Bank’s efforts in using the entertainment industry to change the narratives and poor perception of people towards agriculture.
“Agricultural transformation is very important to Nigeria because that is the area we have the strongest comparative advantage and growth potential,” he said.
BoI, he added, has a functioning creative development desk that is devoted to supporting a number of initiatives in the entire value chain from those who produce movies down to film distribution.
“We will continue to support communication processes such as movies that are aimed at ensuring that we mobilize Nigerians in support of our agricultural transformation aspirations,” Olajungu said.
